- Professor in Experimental Physics, University Research Chair
Davide Iannuzzi is a scientist with no strings attached. He is used to follow his ideas, no matter where they will lead his group to go to. It is for this reason that, in his laboratory, one can find a very diverse range of activities, spanning from microtechnology to optical fiber sensors, from the measurement of quantum forces to dark energy experiments. To overcome the great challenges that his ideas bring along, his group often needs to come up with out-of-the-box solutions that go well beyond the state-of-the-art. One of those solutions (fiber-top technology) lies at the heart of a 1.8 M€ project, that, in 2008, received the endorsement of the European Research Council (ERC Starting Grant).
Tantalized by the possibility to turn ideas into business opportunities, Iannuzzi is always very active in tech-transfer processes too. In 2011, got example, he co-founded a start-up company (Optics 11) that, in two years has brought fiber-top technology in more than 20 laboratories all around the world, with applications that go from landslide monitoring to cell force measurements.
Driven by the desire to have a deeper impact on society, Iannuzzi has recently started a focused effort in the area of health and life sciences (HLS), where he is teaming up with leading experts in neuroscience and clinical research to address a number of key questions on the central nervous system, on cell biology, and on tissue classification.
In 2013, Davide was appointed as full professor on a University Research Chair.
